TU/e strongest collaboration with industry
TU/e takes the world number 1 place in the ranking for scientific co-publications with industry. This is shown by the CWTS Leiden Ranking, which was published today. In particular the disciplines physical sciences and engineering, and biomedical and health sciences, achieve high scores, compared with other universities.
The CWTS Leiden Ranking covers the period from 2010 and 2013. TU/e completed 5,774 scientific publications in that period, of which 14.5% were in collaboration with industry. This is a slight decline of 1% compared with last year, but is still the highest percentage of all universities in the world. A total of three universities in the Netherlands are among the top 50. In fourth place is Delft University of Technology (12.7%), while Wageningen UR drops by 20th places to 50th (8.8%).
This year marks the seventh time that Eindhoven leads the Leiden Ranking since the first edition in 2009. TU/e Executive Board president Jan Mengelers is proud that the university again takes first place in the CWTS Leiden Ranking. This result underlines the university’s strong links with industry.
“The ties between TU/e and industry in the Brainport region and beyond have long been a unique feature of this university. We have a clear ambition for excellence in both education and research, with a strong added value for society at large. For a university of technology this quite simply cannot be achieved without the role of industry. As well as that, we strongly advocate keeping up of our research capacity, for example by maintaining the Impuls program to recruit additional PhD candidates in co financing with industry.”
The CWTS Leiden Ranking measures the scientific performance of 750 universities worldwide on measurable indicators, both in terms of the impact of publications and on the level of collaboration with other universities and industry. In the ranking for publications in scientific publications with the highest impact, TU/e takes the 118th place.
CWTS also investigates which universities have the highest scientific impact. The list of the world’s most influential universities is traditionally led by a number of institutes in the USA. The most frequently cited are from, respective, MIT (Boston), Harvard (Boston) and Stanford (Palo Alto).
