TU/e is stepping up its game at Marathon Eindhoven
The Marathon Eindhoven will be organized on October 13th and this year the TU/e is stepping up its game. A university running team in bright red shirts will appear at the start. You can participate for only five euros. There is a choice between 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, the half marathon or the entire marathon. There is already a lot of interest, Joyce Schonenburg and Melissa Grunewald know, who together organize the TU/e running team as delegates from the Student Sports Centre. "We already have more than 180 interested people."
“We are fanatic runners ourselves and we enjoy getting more TU/e people moving with this project. A running team is in line with the objectives of the Vitality Core Team to make the TU/e campus the most vital,” Grunewald explains.
The TU/e has been working together with the Marathon Eindhoven for years, but it was always less visible. Schonenburg: “There were far fewer tickets, no team shirts and everyone ran for themselves. Now we can really create that team feeling. During the marathon itself, we have the cultural youth centre Dynamo near the finish at our disposal - shared with Fontys -, where we have a place for our team to change, store things and of course celebrate our victory.”
A total of 280 starting tickets are issued for the TU/e team, for five euros. There are one hundred tickets for the 5 kilometers, fifty for the 10 kilometers, one hundred tickets for the half marathon and thirty for the marathon.
Symposium
A real team also prepares together. Therefore, a few training sessions are organized (for the half and full marathon) and there is a free symposium next Thursday, June 6th, where various speakers share their knowledge and prepare you for the marathon.
Professor Aarnout Brombacher will talk about the collaboration between TU/e and the marathon organization to make the Marathon Eindhoven the most innovative marathon in the world. As a visitor of the symposium, you can help with the research; Brombacher will explain how during his lecture. In addition, Harm Sengers, TU/e alumnus and running talent with a time of 2.19 on the full marathon, will share his experiences. Physiotherapist Paul Schulting will give you tips on how to prevent running injuries. André Lindhout from Rønnør will complement him with tips on what you can wear best during a marathon.
Want to participate?
If you show your interest by sending an email to youkeepmoving@ you will be the first to hear when the registration opens. You then have the best chances to get a ticket. If you want to visit the symposium, you can also register via this email address. There are limited spots there as well so we advice you to be quick. tue.nl
The symposium takes place on Thursday June 6th in the movie theater of De Zwarte Doos, from 7 p.m. till 10 p.m. The marathon itself is on October 13th and depending on the chosen distance you will start anywhere between 9:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
