Music on the Dommel possibly three-day festival in 2014
The organization of Music on the Dommel can look back on a ‘very successful’ fourth edition of the festival, says co-organizer Ine van Vlokhoven. Sunday’s Guitar Show was especially popular, partly because of the weather. The organization is thinking of expanding the festival to a three-day event in 2014.
An estimated six thousand people visited the festival last weekend. Sunday especially, with a program featuring a performance by 125 guitar players saw ‘a better turnout than expected’, she said. “We’re an outdoor festival, and free at that. We rely on good weather conditions. Last year the weather was a disaster on Sunday, so we weren’t sure what to expect this year.”
Despite Saturday turning out to be a little less popular, Van Vlokhoven still thinks the first festival day was great. “We’ve worked really hard to create a nice atmosphere and present a varied program. The smaller stages attracted lots of people, too, and we’ve had wonderful responses from the audience.”
The Music for Mali campaign, for which visitors were asked to donate guitars and accessories, was a success as well. According to Van Vlokhoven, people donated a total of 3 amplifiers, 32 guitars, and ‘innumerable’ strings.
The next edition of Music on the Dommel will be held suring the 2014 Ascension weekend, which is the last weekend of May. Van Vlokhoven doesn’t rule out the possibility of ‘organizing something extra’, and she says that they might add Friday to the event.
