In Memoriam | Wout Teunissen
On Saturday July 2nd, we received the incredibly sad news that Wout Teunissen, one of our bachelor students in Computer Science and Engineering, passed away on June 30th. His death comes as a shock to everyone. We wish very much strength to all who knew Wout to give this great loss a place. Our thoughts are with Wout’s family and friends at this most difficult time.
In 2020, Wout started his first year in our Computer Science and Engineering program, and we got to know him as a high performing student with excellent skills and a keen interest in the field of not only Computer Science, but also Mathematics and Biomedical Engineering, where he also followed a few courses.
Friends, peers and lecturers characterize Wout as hard working and smart, but also as a very kind and friendly person who gave out a lot of positive energy in his interactions. He was an active member of study association GEWIS and, in particular, he was very active in his first-year committee. In group projects, his peers could always count on him to contribute and to help produce a strong final outcome.
Despite the corona restrictions, Wout developed and enjoyed some good friendships with several students. Some of them he already knew from high school. His friendly and kind character will clearly be missed.
Last Monday, July 4th, we had an informal gathering within the department to commemorate Wout, and to create a space where everyone could share their thoughts and memories. Wout’s funeral will take place this Friday, July 8th, and on that day, TU/e flies their flag at half-mast in his honor.
The family expressed that they would very much appreciate any last message you would like to share with them. You can leave a personal message in the online condolence register. In addition, in room MF 3.073, a condolence register is available up to and including July 15 to everyone who would like to leave a personal message.
