Diego Quan
Hola! My name is Diego Quan, and I am currently doing a PhD in computational combustion in the group of professor Jeroen van Oijen. I come from Guatemala, where I grew up surrounded by nature and inequality, which triggered my passion for social and environmental justice.
I strongly believe we should use our limited lifetime to do things that make us happy, and procure that everyone is able to do so. To achieve that, we should use science to transform reality into a more just and beautiful place for everyone.
I like natural and social sciences, but also dancing and backpacking. I am a sprinter in the Asterix athletics team, and I hold a black belt in Hawaiian kenpo karate. My team and I won the Dutch CleanTech challenge and the TU Delft Ideation contest during my master's in 2019-2020. Now, as a PhD student, I am trying to find concrete solutions to the energy transition.
I believe a scientist is just a person who didn’t betray their 5-year-old self, and I am also convinced that as scientists we must engage in political action if we are serious about creating a sustainable world.
