Feeling good
"How are you?" “Good,” I hear myself answer(*). Followed by a list of things that actually don't go very well: uncertainty about what I'm going to do as soon as I finish my master's degree; me missing my friends and colleagues; and the difficulty to enjoy sitting behind my laptop every day, for the whole day. These are things that unfortunately I cannot really control, so I started to focus on what I do have an influence on.
The first thing is to go outside. I recently started taking a short walk every morning before I go to work and it's really nice. Going into nature is extremely important for your well-being. Since we work from home, being indoors for a whole day easily happens. Especially now that the weather is getting warmer, you can move some of your activities outside. For example, I do workouts from MadFit together with a friend at the Goffert (Nijmegen, ed.). But maybe you can go roller skating or read a book in the park?
I also try to do creative things. Things where I can focus on what I'm making. I like to work in the kitchen, baking cakes or trying new recipes, a hobby that makes relatives very happy. You could also play a musical instrument, make jewelry, or prototype an idea you have.
Finally, I'm also looking for advice from others. I am a big fan of the Deliciously Ella podcasts. Furthermore, a lot is organized by the university. Two weeks ago I attended an event from the department of IE&IS, where motivation and stress were discussed. Next week it is the Vitality week (who is going ice swimming?) and there will be a podcast from innovation Space about well-being.
These are all little things, of course, but they help me. Despite the things that aren't going so well, I still feel pretty good. And when I am asked again how things are going, I might say “okay” more often, followed by this list of things that are going well.
