Where are we now?
After what has been for innoSpace a fairly hectic summer, now seems like a good time to post an update of the goings on in, yes indeed, Matrix! It may have escaped many readers, but this summer innovation Space managed to move from Gaslab to Matrix. Hats off to everyone at Real Estate Management, the architects and the building contractors who worked up a sweaty butt crack, literally & figuratively, achieving this so quickly.
From the at times visible bodily fluids in the cleavage of various builders to the salty droplets on the shirts of the clients and supervisors; every type of sweat was dripping this summer during the removal. And it all paid off: at 8.30 a.m. sharp on September 3rd, Matrix opened its doors. Streams of first- and second-years filled the three work-lecture theaters, the workshops were populated by Master's students taking multidisciplinary courses and the paddocks (oh yes, a must-see) have been filled with student projects. Innovation Space lives!
It is with pride that I can report that the teams Spike (formerly STORM), Taylor (a high-tech chip for maximum return on solar panels), Solid (fire-raising with iron) and CASA (off-grid homes) have taken up residence in the paddocks. They plan to prove that it is with good reason that they went full time this year! We look forward to seeing their results. We will keep you informed. Anyone wishing to take a look for themselves at how Matrix is furnished, you are warmly invited to the drinks party on October 4th starting at 17:30 hrs.
Big opening
What more needs to be flagged up? Of course! The preparations for the big opening of innoSpace in November (save the date: November 15) are in full swing. As well as having a cool program, we are challenging everyone on campus to use their knowledge. Are you familiar with the Rube Goldberg machine? We are going to build one of our own in a monstrous fashion, along with everyone who wants to join in. On Wednesday September 26th you can get some information ahead of the event. So come to Matrix!
In addition, we are actively trying in a Ruttian way to improve the climate for entrepreneurship on our campus. There's little point in scrapping the dividend tax here as our startups make pitifully little profit. But nonetheless anything could happen. For example, we are working towards a more transparent IP policy, an active student board for entrepreneurship, quick, small financing for emergent start-ups, better multidisciplinary courses and more cooperation between everything related in some way to innovation (innovation Lab, innovation Space, innovation Engine... ), you get the idea.
Until next time!
