CLMN | Five wardrobe essentials for fall
All my girls know the struggle of fall in this country. With the record warmth on October 16th, Netherlands’ weather remains more unpredictable than ever. One day you walk out in shorts, breaking in sweat in your commute to class and the next day you’re fretting to find that thick scarf and double-layered winter coat from the depths of your closet. All in all, it’s a big wardrobe conundrum, where every day you part for lectures leaving your room in a haphazard mess of fabric over fabric over floor.
With the help of these five staple pieces, you can have a stylish autumn outfit and beat the clutter and frustration.
Number 1. Lightweight T-shirt. A light tee is the go-to to build any ensemble. Pair it with a jacket and jeans, or tuck it into a skirt with a cardigan, a basic T-shirt is the most versatile piece of clothing in this in-between weather.
Number 2. Denim jacket. No, this is not a blast from the past, it’s in fact a lifesaver when it comes to layering. Throw it on in the mornings when you leave for class and remove it later on in the day. Protip, look for denims with some embroidery, it adds great texture to any basic outfit.
Number 3. Suede skirts. This is the item of transition from summer to fall. It allows for keeping your legs cool whilst still bringing in the cozy fall fabric. Another way to amplify the autumn-ness of an outfit? Look for colors like chestnut brown or maroon. Want it to be more cute? Add a statement belt.
Number 4. Tailored flowy pants. This is the definition of comfortable for those lazy mornings when you’ve run out of excuses to avoid that 9am lecture. For a breezy effortless look, try finding some vertical stripes to bring out the length in your legs, or go for one with bow belt for extra attention.
Number 5. Jumpsuits. Not only are they just one item of clothing to wear (sleep in for an extra ten minutes go ahead) which gives the appearance of your put-together life, it also works as a perfect day-to-night outfit. Amp it up with some floral patterns or some accessories and the aforementioned denim or a bomber jacket, and you’ve got an effortless fall outfit.
Whether you’re going to class or hunting for the myriad of pumpkin-spice treats to be found, these staple outfits will make you as versatile as the changing leaves.
