Bapat traveled abroad on February 3. Since then, nothing has been heard from him. The family initially still assumed a deliberate trip, as police had been able to trace his bank transactions.
Bapat's parents said in an official statement that family and friends are going through a very difficult period. They want to mourn in private and ask to be left alone.
The university reacts with sadness to Bapat's passing. “This unexpected loss has deeply affected us, and our thoughts and condolences go out to Devesh's family, friends, and acquaintances,” the Executive Board and the faculty board of the Applied Physics and Science Education department wrote on their own website.
The 23-year-old student was completing his bachelor's degree in Applied Science. The university knew Bapat as a 'caring, dedicated and committed student'. “We wish everyone much strength, support, and love during this difficult time." A condolence register will be opened in the Flux building as soon as possible. Students in need of support should contact the student advisor.
