TU/e hit by cyberattack

TU/e took its network offline today in response to a cyber-attack. “This necessary intervention was done to prevent worse outcomes,” vice-president Patrick Groothuis says in a statement. As a result, no educational activities will be possible at TU/e tomorrow. The buildings remain accessible, but there is no wifi on campus. Students and staff also cannot use internal systems such as e-mail and Teams.

On Sunday afternoon around 15:00, NOS sent out a push message about the cyber-attack, including a reference to the statement posted by TU/e on its own website. The TU/e site remains online and will be used to communicate about the ongoing situation.

Building entrance pass systems work as usual, but there is no wifi on campus. Internal systems are also down. “We advise everyone to consider for themselves whether it has added value to come to campus, whether or not in coordination with your supervisor or manager”, the university administration statement says.

TU/e is not providing details about the nature of the cyber-attack and who is behind it. TU/e ICT experts are currently investigating the extent of the cyber-attack. TU/e does not expect the systems to be accessible again until Tuesday at the earliest. On Monday at 16:00, the university will announce via its website what the situation will be on Tuesday.
