Cyberattack: second day without teaching at TU/e
People are hard at work to make the TU/e network safe and available again, but teaching won’t be possible on Tuesday yet. That was the gist of the update on the cyberattack that TU/e published on its website yesterday around 4 pm. The university did launch a temporary Wi-Fi network. A number has also been opened for students and employees to ask their questions via WhatsApp.
For now, TU/e has no indication that data has been stolen, but the investigation into this is ongoing. ‘There is no contact with the hackers and it is still unknown who they are,’ the statement on tue.nl reads.
The work to safely reopen the TU/e network hasn’t been completed yet, which means that the university is entering a second day without teaching today. What can continue are PhD defenses, as well as non-network-related research: ‘all labs and facilities are functional and safe’, TU/e says in its statement.
Wi-Fi
The Wi-Fi is back up as well: a temporary Wi-Fi network named TUe-temporary-wifi has been made available on campus.
Today at 4pm, a new update will be published on the TU/e website. Staff and students can ask any questions they may have via WhatsApp, using the number +31 6 416 83 406. The student desk on floor 1 of MetaForum is also open for questions.
Exam period
In view of the exam period that starts next week, TU/e is working out various scenarios for its education. This involves mapping out all teaching- and student-related issues, including deadlines for assignments and scheduled final presentations. ‘We understand the tensions and uncertainties among both our staff and our students and will make our considerations with the utmost care.’
Resilience
In the statement, Executive Board Vice-President Patrick Groothuis expresses his thanks to the university community: ‘We are touched by the resilience of students and staff and by all the messages of support and help offered.’
As indicated, a new update will be published on the TU/e website at 4pm today, going into the state of affairs for tomorrow (Wednesday).
