TU/e staff member designs Egbert logo

Communications advisor Jochem van Hattum designed a TU/e logo featuring Egbert the fish. The commotion surrounding Egbert’s relocation inspired Van Hattum: “There are so many groundbreaking things happening here and we go to great lengths to communicate about them. But at the end of the day, it’s a fish that steals the show. So while we’re at it, why not make a logo as well?”

Van Hattum spends his days as a communications advisor at LIS. “Designing logos isn’t one of my core tasks, but I do enjoy it a lot. It only took me a few minutes to design this and I thought it was something quirky.”

In any case, it ensures a steady flow of jokes about Egbert within the division. “I love humor and Egbert provides inspiration for endless puns. Every email about Egbert is now a ‘fishing email’ and I’ve also already come up with an appropriate hashtag for when he moves: #wegbert (weg means ‘gone’ in Dutch, ed.).”

Van Hattum grins. “My fish logo has also appeared on a slide on the coffee machines already. It’s kind of special to see how everyone cares about Egbert, with spokespersons talking to the press about a fish instead of groundbreaking breast tissue research. But that’s also TU/e. Egbert brings us closer together and that’s very important in a community.”
