In early February, SPAR University announced a new partnership with sex toy brand EasyToys. From then on, they would offer an assortment of sex toys in their campus stores. The collaboration was said to be aimed at breaking the taboo surrounding sex toys, according to the company.
Mostly strokers
The EasyToys display could also be found in the SPAR store on the TU/e campus. At first somewhat hidden between the aisles, but soon the eye-catching display was placed pontifically in front of the check out counters - that way it could not be missed. This proved to be unsuccessful, says Stephanie Roelandschap, store manager of the supermarket. “Sales were so low, it wasn't worth it.” According to her, sales averaged two to three items per week. The best sold product? “Mostly the strokers.”
Displays taken down
Sales were also lower than expected in all other SPAR University locations, says Roelandschap. “The displays have now been taken down in all stores, only in about three stores a small number of products are incorporated into the normal shelves,” she explains. “We are not one of those stores.” So much for breaking the sex toy taboo. So, for all your EasyToys errands, you will have to go somewhere else again.
