Groep-één wins elections with lowest voter turnout ever

Groep-één won the University Council elections (UR) with over 51 percent of the votes. This keeps the student party at five seats. DAS again obtained three seats and ONS one. At 22.78 percent, student turnout was the lowest ever.

The members of the voting office announced the election results in a less than a-quarter-full film theatre at De Zwarte Doos. There were no surprises in the results; the proportions within the UR remained the same. A total of 2970 valid votes were cast. There were also 154 blank votes. Group One won the election and received the most votes (1543). DAS followed it with 1112 and ONS with 315 votes.

Despite the extra voting day (three instead of two) and the campaigns by student groups to encourage students to go to the polls, the turnout was the lowest ever. Whereas in the record year 2010 53.8 percent of eligible voters went to the polls, a downward trend has been taking place since then. At 22.78 percent, the turnout reached its lowest point ever this year. Although that's still a relatively high percentage compared to the turnout at other universities in the Netherlands.

In addition, the student members of the department councils were announced. Like last year, all faculty councils had more people on the list than there were seats. So the candidates were not automatically elected. An actual vote was required.
