Where are you from?
Cursor can also be found on the Campus Market. We ask students to pin the village, city or country they come from on our world map or the map of the Netherlands. We also hand out our special Intro magazine!
Hungry or thirsty? Plenty of free food on the Campus Market
All new students who are hungry or thirsty, or who simply need some refreshment: there are plenty of free snacks and drinks at the Campus Market. Student associations try to attract students to their stands with free treats. Due to TU/e's new sustainability policy, they are no longer allowed to hand out flyers and goodies. Food and drinks appear to be good alternatives.
Becoming better cyclists
The first cycling lessons were held last night. Cursor visited the session and wrote a longer article on this. There you also find the first experiences of students who chose the Tranquilo Track.
Master's students connect with each other at the 'Love Doctor'
For the master's students, the introduction day started with an appointment at the 'Love Doctor'. There they were taught how to make connections. “We are doing a connection challenge here,” says love doctor Inge van de Vorst. “We help people connect with each other and with themselves. It's about making and maintaining connections. We have everything needed to make that happen.” The students are given an explanation about different attachment styles and receive a sticker with the text 'one hundred percent human'.
“We are all human, we have our vulnerabilities, but they are also our strengths,” says love doctor Van de Vorst. “Everyone gets a sticker to celebrate our humanity. You don't have to be perfect. You are learning. And you will be all your life.” The students are then presented with a 'power pose'. With their hands on their hips, like a kind of superman, they can counteract negative thoughts in the moment.” Adopting a powerful pose also has an effect on the mind.
Afterwards, the students were allowed to connect with each other, literally. The first aid kit is opened for this. “Here is the material,” says love doctor Wendie Huis in 't Veld, pointing to dozens of rolls of gauze. “Just connect with each other.”
Students wake up after first Intro night
At the campus campsite, the first students woke up peacefully after a long night. “We got back to the tent fairly early,” says Biochemical Engineering student Lies (19). She and her high school friend are sleeping in a tent for two. “At first we went to the festival for two hours, but that ended up being a little too crowded for us,” she says.
“Then we opted to do the Tranquilo Track,” says E;ectrical Engineering student Isa (18). “We had a great time playing Mario Party in Neuron.” At the campground things remained rowdy for a long time. “At three in the morning, people were still inflating their air mattresses. We also heard several people tripping over our tent ropes. Quite funny, actually.” Still, they began this new intro day fairly rested. “We put in our earplugs and hardly heard anything anymore.”
Horse mask
Group ID5 was found fully ready for the opening on the Flux field Tuesday morning. One of the mentors is wearing a horse mask. “He arrived late,” his co-mentor explains. However, he can soon pass the mask on to the next person, because one of the Intro kids arrived even later. He brought a bag of sweets for breakfast. Was he unaware of the repercussions for being late? No, he knew, but he still had to do all kinds of things and the elevator took a long time. And how does it feel to have to wear that horse mask? "Medium."
