Picking up your master’s degree at the ‘walk-thru’
A total of 250 TU/e master’s students of Innovation Management received their degree certificates via a 'walk-thru' in Atlas on Saturday, May 29th. Most of them had graduated in the previous year. Due to corona, the ceremony was postponed several times – until now.
“I graduated about ten months ago and I’m hard at work already. You would almost forget that there’s still a degree waiting to be picked up,” 26-year-old Pim Camps says. Nevertheless, today is a festive day for Camps and those family members who travelled with him to the ceremony. The same applies to Janne van Dongen from Nijmegen. “The ceremony was postponed several times, but it’s really great that the university decided to organize a physical event after all.”
Holding a corona proof graduation ceremony for 250 students in a single day is no mean feat. Organizer Suzanne Zaaijer of the Center for Student Administration (CSA) knows all about that. “Graduates can only bring four people, and they’re allowed to stay inside for no more than ten minutes.” This means that program chair Tom van Woensel has two minutes per student to hand out the degree. Van Woensel: “It’s nice to see all those people again. We have to move fast, because we have 250 degrees to hand out, but it’s fun.”
