In Memoriam | Mirjam Hagoort
Our energetic, expert and always positive colleague Mirjam Hagoort, who worked as a student counselor at ESA, passed away on May 31st, 2021. For years she fought for her health, but sadly was unable to win the battle. Mirjam loved her work and did everything she could to continue doing it for as long as possible, despite her illness. Rather than having to spur her on, we found ourselves having to slow her down.
We have to say goodbye to our dear colleague Mirjam. Never again will we hear her very own idioms “zet je snap even aan” or “mag ik even je hersenen lenen” (“Flip on your aha switch” or “Can I borrow your brain?”). She was lightning quick, in both thought and action and at the keyboard. International students in particular were close to her heart. She fought for justice, equality of rights, and in so doing used her legal knowledge where needed. Delivering top-notch legal work, like a real lawyer but with a passion for students and their interests. Never shying away from differences of opinion and standing up for a cause. We will miss her perspicacity. We will miss her humor. We will miss her.
Mirjam joined TU/e on November 1st, 2006 in the role of student counselor. First at STU's International Office and from 2017 at ESA's Student Facilities department.
We wish her husband Olaf, their children Merijn and Tijmen and the family great strength at this time.
