Tunas and indian summer bring city back in vacation mood
Downtown Eindhoven was immersed in a Mediterranean atmosphere last weekend during the annual Tuna Festival. Twelve groups from both here and abroad, together with organizers Tuna Ciudad de Luz and La Tuniña, provided a three-day musical celebration with traditionally a leading role for love (and even a marriage proposal) during a wonderful indian summer weekend.
The thirteenth Tuna Festival was kicked off traditionally on Friday evening with the Pasa Bares, for which the participating student music groups went on a pub crawl through De Bergen, the Stationskwartier and the Markt. On the latter square was also the tent where the Tuna groups performed all three days - for fun, but also for the honor and prizes that were awarded on Saturday evening.
The first prize this year was won by Tuna Magisterio Malaga, closely followed by Tuna Jerez de la Frontera and Tuna Universitaria Maastricht. There were also prizes for, among others, the best show and best soloist.
Video reporter Ward Jongelie and photographer Bart van Overbeeke got carried away by the Spanish sounds this weekend, you find their impressions of the Tuna Festival below.
