Intro 2019 | ‘Magical’ official Intro opening
By pushing the red button, the Intro 2019 officially started on Monday afternoon for more than two thousand freshmen. Lex Lemmens, dean of the Bachelor College, urges everyone to study hard from September onwards, but to also relax. Mind-illusionist Jochem Nooyen fooled his audience pretty well.
The song 'Instagram' blasts out of the speakers when dean Lex Lemmens and the Intro committee press the red button, which causes brightly colored ribbons to be blown into the air. This marks the official start of the Intro 2019.
When Lex Lemmens asks who is from abroad, dozens of students raise their hands ("we are happy about that at TU/e, we want an international community") - students from the north of the Netherlands seem to be less well represented. Judging from the loud enthusiastic cheers - perhaps not very surprising - there are a lot of students from Brabant and Limburg.
After Lemmens has made sure the new students know they have to relax as well during their studies, mind-illusionist Jochem Nooyen takes over the stage and manages to mislead the audience with the help of volunteers. He frees himself like Houdini from his laced up jacket and gives a student the idea that she was touched, which was not the case. Volunteer Kevin makes it visibly difficult for him, when Nooyen is blindfolded and has to 'guess' which colors Kevin chooses to color in a coloring page of a Nike shoe. The color of the shoe that he later brings out, does not exactly match the picture. Nooyen later on does manage to suprise Kevin, who reveals that he had asked the audience to choose instead of doing it himself, with another 'illusion', in which the student wins ten euros - but misses out on a hundred.
