Intro 2019 | Keep going after the midweek slump #video
The third day - not only infamous among the participants of the Four Days Marches Nijmegen, but also among participants of the TU/e Introduction Week. You can’t escape the midweek slump Wednesday late afternoon, but Zanger Kafke, Kav Verhouzer and the Hitjeskanon help get the tired intro kids up and running again this evening.
The Wednesday program may be classified as intense because of the activities of today involve quite some distances. From Thêta’s boat shed to the city center, from Strijp-S to the TU/e campus; the Eindhoven cycle paths are brightly colored and full this Wednesday.
Culture traditionally dominates the Luna building on the TU/e campus, home to the student culture associations. The groups alternately stroll and hop over the stairs and through the corridors: from a quick salsa class at Footloose to the kazoo quiz at Quadrivium and Studentproof, from a game of ‘samourai’ at Doppio to a photo shoot at Dekate Mousa.
Canoe bowling
Sports activities take place on Wednesday at the Student Sports Centre on campus, but also at rowing club Thêta at the Eindhovens Kanaal. The various ‘wet-sports’ associations present themselves here - which are besides Thêta; Okawa (canoeing), Weth (windsurfing) and Boreas (sailing). Intro kids can go on the water for a while, go bowling with a canoe, measure the forces during an ergometer competition or checking out the boat shed.
The groups also visit the city center of Eindhoven again today, where they go to the Van Abbe museum and the societies of SSRE, Demos and the Eindhovens Studenten Corps. Visiting the latter association is a bit of a challenge, because the Ten Hagestraat is closed off due to road work and they need to wring with their bikes to get to the society at all. The activities at the associations range from rodeo riding on a beer bottle to a chug competition and from a silent disco to beer shuffling - the latter is done with water, because sacrificing beer for this is some kind of alcohol abuse and "beer does not necessarily make it more fun”, someone from SSRE commented.
Matches
In the square on Luciferstraat, a guide tells the intro kids, among other things, where Eindhoven’s nickname 'the City of Light' comes from - and that is, hold tight, not to the famous Philips light bulb. It comes from the match industry for which the city played an important role in the nineteenth century. More history awaits the intro kids at Strijp-S, where the Philips factories of the past now offer space for living, working, sports, events and a variety of creativity and other activities.
Read on below the video.
The evening brings all the intro groups together again on campus, on the Flux field, where the day ends with the Hitjeskanon, Zanger Kafke (‘Jumping’), Kav Verhouzer (‘Stap voor stap’) and a few DJs from the different associations. Every single one of them will treat their audience to their best material and cure the last few Wednesday slumps. Ready for tonight? We would love to hear what it was like, tomorrow!
