Intro 2019 | Going around the campus with some Built Environment kids
The University Tour for the built environment freshmen starts in Vertigo. Among other things, they receive information about the Bouwkundewinkel (shop for building supplies), the Education Office and the Skybar. The introduction committee of CHEOPS also seizes the opportunity to show off the concrete printer. After Vertigo, MetaForum, Luna and Auditorium can expect a visit as well.
The introkids are not necessarily full of questions. They just do not know what to expect and let themselves be surprised by what’s coming. Nor do they wonder why the CHEOPS board members wear their yellow (the intro committee), green (new board) or red (organizers of the intro camp) overalls with only one shoulder strap clicked in its buckle. "Not to look cool, but to show off the logo of the study association,” I am reassured.
The kids learn that they can do practical assignments at the Bouwkundewinkel which count as electives courses. The students listen submissively, but when they are asked to take a group photo that looks as fun as possible, the kids come to life. The winner – bringing home a meter of beer - will be announced at the after-Intro-drink at the Skybar next week.
At the Education Office, study advisor Lisanne Kamphorst keeps her talk short. “Remember one thing: if you have a non-subject-related problem during your studies, you have to come to us. We hope you manage to become proactive and independent, but we can help you get there.”
Late
With larger problems you can turn to ESA (Education & Student Affairs), mama Aron van der Hoogen says, exactly on the spot of the counter in MetaForum. He has a somewhat hoarse voice, because of "two hours of sleep and a few beers too many" yesterday. His Intro kid Rik Meulenbroek is wearing a Dracula suit today, as a punishment for being three minutes late this morning.
Papa Hilde Heemskerk would have liked to have slept a little longer, but nevertheless was on time. She did take a power nap during the Studium Generale show in Luna. Which she may regret, because she missed a performance by Timon Krause. He impressed the audience by correctly reading the minds of the - let’s say skeptical - new students.
