Eindhoven is doing remarkably well in the category of scientific citations. TU/e is 25th globally and the highest in the Netherlands. A month ago, the CWTS Leiden Ranking put Eindhoven University of Technology top of its worldwide list of 'broad' technical universities in the field of combined research with industry. QS assessed 4,763 universities for the 2019 edition. Just as last year, Eindhoven is the third Dutch university in the list, behind the TU Delft (52nd) and the University of Amsterdam (57th). The QS World University Rankings has existed since 2004 and is, together with the Times Higher Education Ranking and the ARWU/Shanghai Ranking, leading worldwide and the most popular among international prospective students. 

Rector Magnificus Frank Baaijens of TU/e sees in the QS results confirmation of the enormous motivation and quality of TU/e staff. “We always want to do something better as a university and that is exactly what we now see in this list. It is a great compliment that the academic research has gained recognition among its peers as is shown by the high citation score. Continuously improving the quality of our research and education is not an easy process, given the doubling of the number of students in less than ten years with virtually unchanged funding.”

The QS World University Rankings is an annual ranking of universities that are ranked, among other things, by the quality of higher education and the academic research at those institutions. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is a British company that specializes in educational marketing. The QS rankings are published in a range of media including the American journal U.S. News & World Report. 

The ranking results of QS are determined on the basis of six criteria: 40% Academic Reputation, 10% Employer Reputation, 20% Citations per paper (papers period 2011-2016, citations period 2012-2017), 20% Faculty Student, 5% International Faculty and 5% International Students. TU/e scores best on the indicators Citations per Faculty, Faculty Student and International Faculty. As far as internationalization is concerned, one third of the academic staff at TU/e now consists of foreign staff covering some 80 nationalities.
