TU/e campus 'mature' for the first time

In the annual study of campuses the TU/e campus has been designated for the first time as one of the ten mature campuses in the Netherlands. The High Tech Campus has been on this list for years.

The Automotive Campus in Helmond is labeled as a growing campus and the new Brainport Industries Campus as a fledgling campus. The study report 'Inventory and added value of campuses in the Netherlands' has been compiled on the instructions of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, and the Dutch Knowledge Cities Network (Netwerk Kennissteden Nederland). The researchers studied such aspects as the locations and their facilities, the innovation relations between (knowledge) institutions and companies, and the added economic value.

Brainport Eindhoven is the only region with two 'mature' campuses and therefore tops the list. “That the TU/e campus is an environment where innovation is encouraged is, of course, something we already knew, but it is nice to see it confirmed once in a while," responds Jo van Ham, vice president of TU/e's Executive Board. “It is good to see Brainport Eindhoven again getting the affirmation and attention it deserves.”

According to Van Ham, the cooperation with industry is a deciding factor: “This is exactly what makes the TU/e campus attractive to companies. The research collaborations and living labs ensure that we can innovate better and more quickly here. On the campus some hundred companies have established themselves, and we collaborate closely with them. From startups and SMEs to multinationals like Philips, ASML, NXP and KPN.”

The study, carried out by Buck Consultants International, recognizes campuses as being locations with companies and knowledge institutes that work together on R&D. In total, 82 locations were studied and 35 were classified as true campuses.
