Birthday-boy Demos invites the entire city over for coffee
Demos is 55-years-old and that calls for a party. On this occasion not (only) with beer, but with coffee - and plenty of it. On February 8, the student social association hopes to lay on the largest 'coffee event' ever in TU/e’s market hall. And, Demos doesn't do anything by halves: the whole of Eindhoven is invited.
Some eighty liters of coffee are expected to be consumed on Thursday February 8. That is if all those invited, who will be accommodated at fifty-five tables, turn up for a celebratory cup of java. Naturally, Demos is advertising its upcoming world record attempt not only on campus, co-organizer Mirko Bolsenbroek points out, but also elsewhere in the city. “We will be putting up posters in community centers and so on.”
Some two hundred and fifty is the number of visitors Demos hopes to play host to next week, “but that is really only a guess,” says Bolsenbroek. Whether this will be enough to secure a world record with official status also remains to be seen, he readily admits. “We are mainly interested in holding a fun event, together with the city's residents.”
On other occasions later in its eleventh lustrum year (the theme of which is ‘Maximum’), the association hopes to show its face in Eindhoven. On Thursday May 3rd, for example, Demos will be taking over the city center square named Stadhuisplein, with an entire day of free activities for young and old and, in the evening, live music by various bands. A party for Eindhoven students is also planned.
The caffeine rich record attempt (which incidentally is co-powered by a well-known Brabant brewery) starts on February 8 at 12.45 hrs.
