New lecture timetable starts next week

Be alert as of next week: that is when the new lecture timetable starts. The ninth and tenth hours will be more frequently used, the lunch and evening breaks will be shorter and afternoon lectures will start at different times. Also new: in quartile 1 various lectures will be live streamed.

Struggling with the new timetabling

The new timetable introduced in September is proving problematical for various parties, as indeed they expected it would. Study associations are struggling with the shorter breaks, which have encroached upon the lunchtime lectures held by companies and meetings. Studium Generale is noticing that the depth of its programs is suffering. No one has any ready-made solutions to hand.

Internal strife over shorter lunch break

The reduction of the lunch break from 75 to 60 minutes in the 10-hour timetable proposed by the Executive Board gave rise yesterday to a clear difference of opinion with the student factions on the University Council. These groups are firmly in favor of a 75-minute break as, they believe, this is the only timeframe in which companies can hold good lunchtime sessions. These, they argue, are very important to students' career options.

TU/e keen to introduce 12-hour timetable

“The current 10-hour timetable no longer meets our needs,” Rector Magnificus Frank Baaijens yesterday told the assembled members of the University Council. The strong growth in student numbers necessitates the switch to a 12-hour timetable, he believes. The introduction should take place in the third quarter of the coming academic year. In the coming weeks this issue will be discussed in several university bodies.
