Intro 2018 | Pulling an all-nighter and the last day’s #video
It's a wrap. The Intro is over and below you see the last video from reporter Collin Wagenmakers and editor Bas van der Kam. It’s also the last chance to ask them some questions. What was it like to stick your nose and camera in the business of thousands of intro kids and parents for a week?
The days felt long for Bas and Collin. Most of you have seen Collin walking around with his camera and microphone, but did you know that Bas also worked an average of twelve hours per day in Cursor's room this week at MetaForum? That resulted in a nice daily video of the previous introday. The result of today and of Tricky Thursday can be found below:
Bas had a bit of mixed feelings about spending all those hours of editing the videos while sitting still. "I was only mentally active and the last two days I sometimes felt I was dozing off a bit. But I had a tactic: I would work on a job in which I did not work with sound and then I listened to intense hip-hop. That helped.” And on Tricky Thursday day, Bas just went partying. "That gave me more energy than sleeping all night, I think."
Collin, who could walk around all day chasing the fun, only had a dip on Wednesday night. And after a powernap on Thursday afternoon everything was okay again. "I thought it was a very nice week, because the intro kids were really positive when I asked them something. And it was so cool that groups even came up to me on their own initiative."
What Collin put on film, Bas took out partly (an estimated fifteen minutes). That was not due to the interviews, but mostly to the sound. He made five fantastic films from the remaining footage. Chances are that you will be in there as well. Have you already checked them?
Tips from Collin and Bas, for you!
1. Collin (who had his Intro in 2013 and will start the master Data Science & Entrepreneurship next year): "Invest in a network. Joining an association is fun, but do not stay there. Also get to know other clubs."
2. Bas (Industrial Design student, had his Intro last year): "Don’t worry about your image too much. If can’t dance very well, that’s okay. It is worse if you do not dare to dance at all. It is much more fun if you feel happy and free in what you do."
With this wise advice we close 'project Intro 2018', feeling great: thanks for your enthusiasm and good luck at the TU/e! And of course we would like to see you back on our website.
