In Melbourne I am studying at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). As an exchange student I am enrolled in two management courses and two Real Estate courses as part of my master Urban Systems & Real Estate. My lectures take place at the city campus that is located right in the middle of the Central Business District (CBD) which is great with all amenities in the center. The Melburnians cycle a lot more than I had expected and this is mostly stimulated by the cycling paths that they have constructed. The infrastructure is clearly based on the grid structure like in the USA, while the culture is mostly influenced by European immigrants. This is why for example coffee is taken so seriously.
I really enjoy Melbourne being such a sports mad city. Everyone even gets a day off the day before the Grand Final of the Australian Rules Football competition. I also visited two games of this very tough sport in the MCG, which was a nice experience. This stadium may be considered huge because of its maximum capacity of 100,000 spectators and this indicates how popular the sport is, next to for example sports as cricket and tennis (Australian Open).
I totally agree with the fact that Melbourne has been awarded for being most livable city in the world multiple times because of the many public parks, relaxed atmosphere and very kind people. Melbourne also is a very good starting point to go on trips. Very popular and only a few hours driving from Melbourne are the Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island. The Outback with its famous Uluru is very special a bit further away (a 3-hour flight). And even further away (a 5-hours flight) Fiji was a unforgettable experience. Right now I am already in the exam period (because over here the semester starts in July and ends in November) and I can already look back on so many unforgettable moments. I definitely can recommend everyone to spend some time abroad for heaps of new, nice and extraordinary experiences.
