Scottish honorary doctorate for Onno Boxma
The Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh has conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Science to Onno Boxma, full professor of Stochastic Operations Research in the TU/e department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Sergey Foss, full professor of Applied Probability, and current Editor-in-Chief of the Queuing Systems journal, is Boxma’s honorary tutor.
Onno Boxma (1952) receives the honorary doctorate for his contributions to advancements in probability theory and operations research in general, and queueing theory in particular. Boxma: “As I see it, this honorary doctorate is also a recognition of our Stochastics section. Thanks, in part, to the Eurandom institute, Eindhoven stochastics now holds a very prominent position internationally.”
Boxma has been working with researchers from the Heriot-Watt University for years: "They are conducting a lot of research into actuarial mathematics and queueing theory, which are my main research areas."
In recent years, he has received several acknowledgements for his work, including an honorary doctorate from Haifa University (2009), the ACM SIGMETRICS Achievement Award (2011), and the Arne Jensen Lifetime Award (2014).
