More study seats across entire campus

The Auditorium is set to gain some 200 additional study seats. Thanks to a redesign and new furniture, there will soon be room for 630 people to be seated at any one time, whether eating lunch or studying. All over the campus more study seats are being created. The idea is to give over the first two floors of every building primarily to Bachelor's students.

Across the entire campus the first floor of buildings should be designed for Bachelor's students to use. That is the wish of Dean Lex Lemmens and, with the projects currently being carried out by Real Estate Management is to create more study seats, it can be achieved. The idea is to make the hallways and rooms multifunctional. Accordingly, the hall in the Auditorium and the walkway on the second floor are being refurbished.

With an extra 200 chairs and tables, the number of study seats in the Auditorium will total 270 after the redesign. LED lighting will be installed and some of the work places will be movable so that as well as individual students they can accommodate groups. The striking red flooring will remain unchanged. Eating will be allowed at all seats and a microwave oven will be installed in the hall. An additional coffee dispenser will be sited on the walkway. Renovation work will start in the summer vacation and completion is expected by the end of September or early October.

TU/e is currently undertaking various measures to increase the number of study seats and teaching rooms. Besides the 200 extra places in the Auditorium, another three lecture halls, each accommodating 30 to 40 students, will be created in Vertigo. These are intended to replace some of the space that will be lost to Innovation Space after the summer vacation. After that renovation, Matrix will have six lecture halls, three large ones each accommodating 75 students and three smaller ones for 30 people each.

Finally, the Book My Space reservation system offers another way of getting more backsides on study seats. Soon, once Atlas is in use, the system will hold 400 rooms and almost 5000 tables available for booking.
