TU/e again to take active part in Science Weekend

Science Weekend will see De Zaale undergo a transformation. On Sunday October 8, this site on the TU/e grounds will become a science corridor between the Auditorium and DIFFER.

TU/eXperience 2017 will build on the experiences gained during the Dream & Dare Festival in April 2016. “The magic lab continues to be a hit and we will certainly be putting on another science show with a Dutch celebrity and our own student teams,” says Jeanette Schoumacher of the Communication Expertise Center. “A new feature is the corridor between Auditorium and DIFFER. The Green Strip will not be involved this year because the renovation work at Atlas means we cannot use the lake. This year we are creating a traffic-free boulevard.”

De Zaale will become a passage at various points along which the public can get a behind-the-scenes glimpse. The science show and magic lab will be set up in the Auditorium; De Plint at Luna will host TU/e Talks about current research.

A little farther away, the Automotive lab will be opening its doors to visitors, Industrial Design will be organizing workshops on topics such as smart clothing in the Laplace building, and food trucks will stand in the car park between these locations. The corridor will come to an end at the research institute DIFFER where school pupils will be able to do science experiments.

Most TU/e activities on the Sunday of Science Weekend are aimed at the general public aged fifteen and older. The same is true of the TU/e Talks, which will be given in Dutch, ‘Powered by iron powder’ by Niels Deen of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, ‘Little brain machines’ by Mechanical Engineering lecturer Regina Luttge and ‘The self-healing body’ by Anthal Smits of Biomedical Engineering.
