House of Representatives: ‘Grant students the right to maternity leave’

Minister Jet Bussemaker never wanted to hear anything about it, yet it seems to be happening now after all: the House of Representatives has taken an initiative, which is supported by Bussemaker’s own PvdA party, to grant students the right to maternity leave and a tailor-made examination program.

Yesterday the House passed a motion from Peter Kwint (SP) and Kirsten van den Hul (PvdA) that calls on the government to grant students “the formal right to maternity leave”. In addition, Examination Committees should be ordered to establish individual examination programs in order to prevent delay in studies due to maternity leave “wherever possible”. VVD, CDA, PVV and Forum voor Democratie voted against the motion.
