‘We also need ‘fresh eyes’ from internationals’
More and more international students manage to find their way to TU/e. However, that does not yet translate into as many foreign students taking an active part in associations. The language is a hurdle, as is the nature of the activities or the unfamiliarity with the association. Nevertheless there is more movement gradually, thanks to more international students, English-language studies, the recent appointment of a community manager and combined activities.
‘At least thirty percent of all the members of study and student associations at TU/e should consist of non-Dutch students.’ Only very few students could identify with this thesis which was launched in September during a university debate. Reactions voiced by student committee members ranged from ‘We have tried all sorts of things to involve non-Dutch students, but we have not succeeded’ to ‘They don’t feel at home anyway within our association’s culture’.
