TU/e gets ready for GLOW

Preparations on campus for GLOW are in full swing. Visitors to the Science route, which runs largely over TU/e grounds, will be able to see ten projects made by students and employees. A couple of projects in the city are also the work of TU/e employees or alumni. The GLOW light festival will be held from November 12 through 19.

All the installations on the campus have a research component. This was one of the requirements set by Gerrit Kroesen, Dean of the Department of Applied Physics and coordinator of the TU/e projects. The Glow Science route extends 3.2 kilometers.

GLOW starts daily at 18.30 hrs and can be experienced on Friday and Saturday until midnight, and from Sunday through Thursday until 23.00 hrs.

Faltering Tesla Coil only hitch at GLOW's opening

After having to pull out all the stops just before GLOW got underway, TU/e can finally look back on a successful opening weekend. The Tesla Coil, one of the public favorites at GLOW five years ago, was put out of action by computer failure on Saturday evening, but once the necessary changes were made it was back up and running on Sunday. With another lightning installation, Exploding Wire, TU/e set a new record: for the longest artificially created lightning bolt.

80-meter thunderbolt on TU/e campus during GLOW

This year during GLOW, TU/e is keen to set a world record with a thunderbolt measuring at least 80 meters long. This is just one of the university's projects planned for display on the campus starting November 12, when the eleventh edition of the light art festival gets underway.
