TU/e opens second tap water station at Flux
Today, on World Water Day, TU/e is officially putting its second tap water station into operation. The first station, which is part of the Join the Pipe network, was installed two years ago at MetaForum; the second one has been at Flux for a week now, next to the bicycle shelter.
The university does not only want to encourage the drinking of tap water among students and employees; with the tap water stations of Join the Pipe, TU/e is also supporting drinking water projects in developing countries. After all, for millions of people around the globe, access to clean drinking water is still not a matter of fact; on World Water Day attention is drawn to this problem and to the search for solutions.
Simultaneous with the opening of the second tap water station the GO Green Office is starting the sale of sustainable water bottles. These 'BoGo Bottles' from Join the Pipe (BoGo stands for ‘Buy One Give One’) have the symbolic form of sections of water pipe and are made of BPA-free plastic. Real Estate Management made a financial contribution to the bottles, so that they are for sale at TU/e at a discount (6 euro instead of 7.95) in the Studentshop in MetaForum.
Daniëlle Dikhoff, who is involved in the GO Green Office from Real Estate Management, says that by buying it you do not only get a sturdy, reusable bottle for your money, but a good feeling as well. Indeed: the sale of these bottle helps to support drinking water projects in developing countries. “People are often inclined to look at the costs, but they should also care to look at what something yields.”
