The emergency number on campus is 2222
In the coming weeks a sticker showing the emergency number 2222 will be placed on cell phones issued by TU/e and on all Lync telephones. Too often on campus people still call the general number 112. That can cost valuable time, says Mirjam Jahnke, head of Safety & Security. The sticker campaign is intended to raise awareness among TU/e employees, students and other residents on campus.
Coordinators of TU/e's Emergency Response Team will be stickering cell phones in the coming weeks, targeting the cell phones of colleagues who work in their building. Lync telephones too will get a sticker prominently displaying the four twos. Employees who have only a headset will get a sticker in the next round.
“We know from the last survey that few people know the 2222 number. If the police, fire or ambulance service is needed, it is important this number is called instead of 112. It connects the caller with our own control center,” says Mirjam Jahnke.
The great advantage of contacting the Safety & Security service is the speed with which they can act because they know their way around the campus. A report like, “Something has happened in the construction elevator,” or “I'm lying on the roof of the Auditorium with a broken leg,” is not very informative for a national service based off campus. TU/e Security can give the municipality's ambulance drivers, police staff and fire service vehicles precise directions. In addition, TU/e has its own fire service.
Only the residents of the as yet unoccupied residential towers, Aurora and Luna, will be advised to call 112. “The municipal services are keen for residents to use the standard procedure that applies to all citizens in their homes,” says Jahnke, “which is to call 112.”
