Major overhaul for Plaza Vertigo
To resolve the shortage of study places for Built Environment students and the long lines at the canteen in Vertigo, the second floor of the departmental building will be redesigned this summer. Fifty new work spaces will be provided and another two checkouts. The reception will be moved to a better position.
In September the canteen in Vertigo will be closed for a couple of days while the kitchen is renovated. Monique Kuyck, head of Operational Services at Internal Affairs, cannot yet say when the closure will occur or how long it will last. “The schedule has not yet been finalized, but we will try to keep it as short as possible.”
Not only the kitchen, but the entire second floor of Vertigo, which is named Plaza Vertigo, will be refurbished at that time. The kitchen, which will remain in the same place, will gain new, quieter equipment. The serving area will be substantially enlarged. A new addition will be an L-shaped counter accommodating three checkout desks. Here, customers can pay for their Starbucks coffee. A separate Starbucks corner will not be created; the preparation of beverages will remain with Eurest.
In the corner by the pedestrian bridge to Matrix, there will be wooden tables, chairs with adjustable height settings, and plenty of power sockets. Here, where the WiFi will also be improved, there will be enough study places for fifty students.
The renovation work will get underway in late August, early September. Everything is expected to be finished by early October.
