New coffee machines: pre-ground coffee out, coffee beans in
All machines serving hot drinks on TU/e campus will be using fresh Segafredo coffee beans starting in May. After an elaborate tendering process, the university will once again do business with Maas Services – the only party who supplied a quote. Internal Affairs is sorry they were the only one, since they would've liked to involve TU/e coffee drinkers in the process.
Over a year ago, Internal Affairs started their tendering process for vending machine catering, which not only included coffee machines, but candy, snack and soda machines as well. Monique Kuyck, head of Operational Services at Internal Affairs, says she'd expected more quotes up to the very last moment, but eventually it was just Maas. “They offer quality at a good price and are technologically advanced - it's what we want.”
Sounds like it all worked out ideally, but Kuyck and her colleagues had hoped to offer a public 'taste experience' where users could taste and rate the beverages. “There's no way to do that with only one quotation.”
TU/e coffee machines currently use Max Havelaar coffee, but that will change to Segafredo, ground from “sustainable, grade-A coffee beans”. The price of a cup of joe will remain the same at 45 cents.
Not only will users be able to pay cash for their hot drinks: they can use contactless payment as well (using an NFC chip). Staff can also pay using their campus card. Only the smaller models that will be installed at Traverse, MetaForum, Fux, and Vertigo for example, will lack coin slots.
