And how are things in Helsinki?
Finland, the country with a thousand lakes. The country is beautiful, with breathtaking nature. However, upon arriving here I did notice something: It’s cold here. Very cold. And dark, really dark. Luckily, the Finns are clever, and they have a couple of tricks up their sleeve to combat this.
First up: sauna! Saunas are as common as having a front door in Finland. I have a sauna in the basement, and it is extremely likely you will have one too when you get here! It is completely normal to use one three times a week (naked for men), and it’s a very good start of an evening of going out.
Next up: the gym. Finns workout a lot. I have never seen a country with so many people working out all the time. I don’t know how they do it, but they even run when there’s layers of ice outside. I have a suspicious feeling that they just float above the ice, ignoring the laws of nature. It’s magical.
Third: They eat, a lot. They like to eat a warm meal twice a day, and they take enough to feed an entire household. And it’s mainly meat they’re eating, like braised reindeer meat, elk meatballs, sausages, hamburgers, roulades, and so on. Of course, beer is also on the list of solutions in order to prevent depression! Unfortunately though, the price for alcohol is quite high.
Rounding off: Keep going outside and visit everything. Finland has a lot of beautiful places, and the cities near Helsinki are worth visiting.
