Team Eindhoven third in the ‘Bata’
The Eindhoven participants can look back with satisfaction on their participation in the 'Bata'. This weekend Team Eindhoven achieved third place in the general classification of the relay race. The route runs from Radboud University in Nijmegen to the University of Twente campus in Enschede. The TU/e-Fontys team came sixth in the university competition.
According to a satisfied Niek Verdijck, leader of Team Eindhoven, third place in the general classification was "the highest placing possible". "The teams who came first and second were way too strong for us. As a couple of our runners had to drop out, there was some anxiety about how well we would do."
In the university class the TU/e-Fontys team had to be satisfied with sixth place. "We knew it was going to be difficult this time round," said Verdijck. "It's a shame, but it wasn't to be for us." The RU/HAN University team secured victory in the university competition.
The Batavieren Race is known for being the longest relay race in the world. The total distance run is more than 175 kilometers and the route is divided into 25 stages (16 men's and 9 women's stages).
