It is impossible to quickly pop in the supermarket for your groceries, because before you know it you will have a long conversation with the cashier about anything. Furthermore it is an absolute no-go to get out of the bus without saying thanks to the bus driver.
However, not only the people make Edinburgh a wonderful place to live, the city itself hides beautiful buildings and old pubs behind every corner. You can do so many things here that 4 months are way too short.
Moreover, there are also lots of things to see outside of Edinburgh. If you are not afraid of driving on the left side of the road you can rent a car and quickly be in the middle of the Highlands, on the beautiful Isle of Skye or strolling between the ruins of old abbeys and castles in the Borders.
Of course I also have to study, just like Charles Darwin and Alexander Graham Bell used to do here. Or you can become famous by writing a book in one of the little coffee shops (J.K. Rowling). Unfortunately, even in a city like this, you can have bad luck. Halfway through the semester it appeared my apartment had bed bugs. I had to live in a hostel for a week and when I got back into the apartment the bed bugs were still there. Luckily, when being abroad you make new friends very soon, to whom I could turn to for help and soon we found a new, beautiful apartment. In the end, an experience to never forget!
