Intranet changes

The intranet at TU/e will go from an open to a closed environment. Staff and students can access the intranet on campus. If they’re not on the TU/e network, the intranet will only be accessible via VPN connection. The ‘back’ of the intranet, the website, the study guide, and research groups will be equalized. The all new intranet will go online around summer.

Several services and departments had requested a closed online environment, says project leader Jurgen Weisfelt. After the intranet is protected, external search engines like Google won’t be able to find TU/e intranet pages anymore. Upon completion of the new intranet around the start of the new academic year, searching it will go through a single search engine that’s can be found on the intranet itself.

All TU/e intranet websites run on different versions of TYPO3. After the reorganization, all sites will run on the same version. It’s up to each department and service what to keep or discard of the ‘old’ site.

Personnel and Organization (DPO) has been using the new environment since February, and Mathematics & Computer Science (W&I) went live earlier this week. Three departments and three more services are next – the rest of TU/e will follow after that.
