And how are things in Vigo?
For my internship I left for Vigo at the 23rd of March. Vigo resides in Spain just above Portugal next to the Atlantic Ocean. When you think of Spain you think of nice warm and dry weather. Because of that I was a bit surprised when my supervisor told me I should bring my raincoat because it would rain a lot.
When I arrived here the sun was shining but even then my coworkers assured me that this wasn’t normal and it really would rain a lot. I still don’t know it they just like complaining about the weather of if I’m just lucky. It has rained a few times but it’s better than the weather in the Netherlands.
What I do miss is my bike. Only here I learned how easy it is to just be able to get on your bike and ride to the shops or the University. Here the University lies atop of a mountain and Vigo itself is also very hilly and because of that riding a bike is out of the question. Because of that you need to take a bus everywhere and they aren’t nearly as well thought of as in the Netherlands. For instance they ride in circles which means that when you get somewhere by bus you probably have to take another one back. Also the app to plan routs doesn’t work properly so often it is quite a hassle to figure out how to get somewhere.
But I got here for the challenge which has worked because next to the bus there are other things which can be challenging. For instance there is a very big language barrier because nobody speaks a language other than Spanish. Luckily everyone is very nice and they want to help you the best they can so in the end you’ll always manage.
