AMIGO, SERGIO, and TURTLES aim for world title

Care robots AMIGO and SERGIO have arrived in China. The soccer robots, the TURTLES, will leave for megacity Hefei from Schiphol Airport on Tuesday, July 14. The World Cup Robot Soccer will be held in Hefei from July 17-23. The robot soccer team will be defending their title, and the care robot team hopes to improve last year’s second place.

Prolonging their world title will be no mean feat for the robot soccer team. “Our competition has stepped up their game. Surely, they’ll have improved their passing skills”, expects team coach and Mechanical Engineering student Lotte de Koning.

Last year, the team improved on many aspects to stay ahead of competition. The through ball has been improved on a software level, as has the ‘quick pass’. The team also switched to higher-capacity batteries that charge faster.

The care robots have been developed further as well, the greatest advantage being the robots can now work together.

After a couple of days to prepare, matches will start on July 19. Finals are scheduled for July 22.
