TU/e getting ready for paid parking
Starting March 31, all campus residents will have to pay two euros a day for parking on campus. License plates will be registered and linked to personal parking accounts, which will be charged automatically. Internal Affairs and DH are currently working to get the necessary systems up and running in time.
At campus entrances and exits, the license plate registration system is being implemented as we speak, to make sure it’s ready to go on March 31. Every boom barrier will be fitted with a small camera that recognizes the license plates of visitors coming in and leaving. After every entrance, a so-called e-wallet – a personal parking account for employees – will be charged two euros.
Shortly, all employees will receive an instruction e-mail. In short: a link will direct you to your personal information, where you will be asked to enter your license plate number, and a second if you have one. These numbers can be changed at any time, should you get a new car or a rental. The personal page also has a virtual wallet that can be charged through iDEAL or credit card.
Every time a car passes the registration system, two euros will be withdrawn from your account. People leaving campus and returning on the same day won’t be charged twice. The boom barriers will open as soon as a license is recognized, so scanning campus cards will be a time-consuming thing of the past. Using a campus card is still an option, though, stresses head of Safety & Security Mirjam Jahnke. Should the system fail, the card is a backup. Students and visitors are already paying for parking on campus, so things remain the same for them.
