Supermarket Flux opens after summer
The opening of the very first TU/e campus supermarket in Flux is delayed by several months. Spar University wanted to open this month, but a few constructional changes have to be made to the location still. The manager now hopes to open upon the start of the new academic year.
In Utrecht, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam, Spar University had been operational for some time now. Eindhoven and Delft branches are to follow. Both ‘TU supermarkets’ are delayed, however; by a few months in Eindhoven, and over a year in Delft.
Before the fourth branch of Spar University can open its doors in Eindhoven, several connections, including electricity and water, and cooling outlets still have to be installed. The area next to the Flux entrance was not meant for retail originally, says Binneveld, which is why some things were not taken into consideration during initial construction. Store manager Erwin Binneveld of Denk Different will be informed about the progress and outlook by TU/e’s DH shortly.
Spar University works with self-checkout only. Customers scan and pay for their products without a cashier in sight. Supermarket staff is available, of course.
Opening times are still being discussed, but the manager hopes for ‘eight to eight’ (possibly nine) on weekdays, and on the weekends in exam periods.
