Paid parking not until April 2015
TU/e staff will be off the hook for another three months before they will be charged two euros a day for parking on campus. Initially, paid parking was to be implemented on January 1, 2015, but since the license-plate recognition system still has to be contracted out and tested, Internal Affairs expects the system to be put to use no earlier than March.
Martin Boers, head of Internal Affairs explains why it’s impossible to start charging for parking on campus in January already. “We’ll be working with a system where boom barriers go up as soon as it recognized the license plate of an approaching car. The owner of the car has to be charged at that point as well. The project will be put out to European tenders this week. We should know who’ll be contracted for the project by early December.”
However, the system will still have to be installed and tested after that, says Boers. He expects that phase to be concluded by the end of March, 2015.
