Certification for up-to-date engineer

Engineers who regularly maintain their businesses can now earn a certification mark. The idea was put forward by the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI), following their British partner Engineering Council. On Wednesday, the two professional associations came to an agreement on the matter.

To be awarded the certification engineers must have several years of work experience, and pass an entrance exam. Candidate engineers have to present a portfolio of their work, about which two examiners will question them. They’ll also have to remain active in their field of expertise, and retain ‘a sharp eye for social context’.

The certification offers advantages for the engineers as well as their profession. It will be easier for researchers to find assignments, since internationally certification is required more and more often. The greatest advantage for the profession, according to KIVI, is that engineers are encouraged to stay professionally active in their field longer.
