And how are things in Davis?
Everybody has their dreams. My dream was to visit ‘the land of the free, and the home of the brave’. This year my dream to go to North America finally came true. It was even better than I had expected, here in Davis in northern California. I travelled to Davis to develop an energy management strategy for a hybrid motorcycle equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell. Long story short: super fancy stuff.
I always thought Americans were petrol-burning cowboys, but that turns out to apply to the Texans only. Americans, or I should say ‘Californians’, are rather environmentally and health conscious people. That is also why a lot of people go for a run during evening hours. Something I also took up. The people around here are very friendly, helpful, and easygoing.
Davis is a nice place to hang out and its location is also pretty great, as it’s located in between several big national parks, including Yosemite, Point Reyes, and Lake Tahoe. During weekends I am mainly exploring all the beautiful things California has to offer. And I do so the American way: I rented a Harley and drove to Napa Valley, renowned for its good wine, which is said to be even better than French wine. And after the Harley adventure I couldn’t very well pass up a trip in a Ford truck.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and so does ‘Frans does America’. Luckily we have a stopover in Chicago before going home again.
