Seven TU/e ideas nominated for BRAINS Award

Seven of twenty nominations for the BRAINS Award are TU/e ideas. The organization announced their nominees yesterday. The winners of the idea contest for Eindhoven students will be announced during the Dutch Technology Week on May 22.

TU/e student Paul Jansen (Built Environment) and Fontys student Marco Batsen came up with the idea for a Stratum Community to help think about the future of pub street Stratumseind. Pieter Custers (Mechanical Engineering) wants to set up an energy store to work on social issues with other (secondary-school) students and so contribute to a more sustainable Eindhoven.Built Environment students Floor van Schie, Alice Janssen, and Marthe Doornbos believe in their idea SUmmerlaBB – a design for a sustainable festival structure. Carolina Gomez, Areti Paziourou, Maria Gustafsson and Begum Erten-Uyumaz (all Industrial Design) submitted an idea for a web application with information on the origin and eco-friendliness of clothes and accessories.Freek de Bruijn (Industrial Design) thought of a concept that makes platooning a more positive experience for truck drivers. Platooning involves a group of automated cars that follow a manually-driven vehicle. Martijn Peeters (Industrial Design) wants to start working on EGGY, a design shaped like an egg timer that allows (elderly) neighbors to get in touch more easily. The Awair concept is the intellectual property of ID students Anouk Kauffeld, Bjorn Schulpen, Maarten van Rooij and Sander van der Zwan. With the help of a small, easy-to-use device they want to visualize the indoor climate. Awair turns green when a room is humid, and white in a room that’s too dark.

Final in Muziekgebouw on May 22, 7.30PM. To attend, register at www.brainseindhoven.nl/uitreiking.html
