Wristbands against alcohol abuse during Intro
"If underage kids are caught with alcohol, their wristband will be cut off", says Pieter-Paul Kramer of the Central Intro Committee. "If caught during the day, they can get a new wristband. But should they be caught drinking at night, they won't be able to get another beer bracelet for that day. No wristband means you can't participate in Intro activities. The rule also goes for Intro moms and dads, by the way. If they're caught buying alcohol for minors, their wristband will be changed for a no-alcohol one.
Intro participants who disreagard the alcohol policy during Intro week, will temporarily lose their wristbands. A wristband is mandatory for anyone who wants to particpate in Intro activities. All parties involved have indicated they will actively monitor underage drinking. The wristbands distinguish between 18 and up, and 18 and under, and are used for the first time this year to prevent a breach of the new alcohol law. Some ten to fifteen percent of new students will not yet have reached the age of eighteen upon the start of Intro week. Last year, that were 240 students. Earlier, it was announced that this year's cantus is to be a non-alcoholic event.
